Happy 3rd Birthday to the Dog Who Saved My Life

Today, my precious Chiweenie turns three.

Three years ago, I was drowning in darkness. The kind of pain that makes you question everything — waking up felt like a burden, and hope seemed like something that happened to other people. Then this tiny, sassy little puppy came into my arms, and in that single moment, everything began to change. Margarita didn’t just enter my life. She rescued it.

From the very first time I held her warm little body against my chest, she became my reason to breathe again. She became my light in the darkest days, my gentle nudge to keep going when I wanted to give up, and my unwavering anchor when the waves threatened to pull me under. She is so much more than “just a dog.” She is my best friend, my soulmate in fur, my rock, and the purest love I’ve ever known. This tiny weenie with her big floppy ears, and that perfect blend of sweet and spicy has completely taken over my heart — and my life — in the most beautiful way.

Margarita is pure sunshine wrapped in attitude. She loves everyone she meets with her whole heart and doesn’t have a single mean bone in her tiny body. Yet she’s undeniably a spicy Margarita — sassy, clever, and knows exactly how to wrap me around her little paw with one dramatic look or a stomp of her tiny feet. She runs our home (and every decision I make) … and I thank the universe every single day that she does. She goes everywhere with me. My constant shadow. My emotional support. The one who curls up against me when the tears come, who makes me laugh with her zoomies and playful demands for belly rubs at the most inconvenient times, and who reminds me — without words — that I am never alone.

Every single day, she teaches me what unconditional love truly looks like. She shows me how to live in the moment, how to find joy in the smallest things, and how to love fiercely even when life feels overwhelming. She has healed parts of me I thought were broken forever.

Today, as we celebrate her third trip around the sun, my heart overflows with gratitude I can barely put into words. Thank you, my beautiful girl, for saving me when I couldn’t save myself. Thank you for your endless kisses, your sassy little attitude, your sweet soul, and for choosing me every single day. You are my greatest gift. You are my inspiration. You are my reason. You are my everything.
